Charts, drill-downs and row actions on reports
Many of Breww's pre-built reports do more than show a table. They can draw the same figures as a chart, and let you click from a row through to the records behind it. This guide covers those shared features - see Navigating the reporting dashboard for how to find the reports themselves.
Viewing a report as a chart
Where a report supports charting, a View as chart / View as table toggle appears at the top right of the results, next to the Export button. Switching between the two doesn't re-run the report, so it's instant.
Some reports open on the chart, because that's the quickest way to read them (the weekly production summary and beer loss reports, for example). Others open on the table and offer the chart as a second view. Either way, the toggle is always there and the choice is yours.
Charts are interactive - hover any bar, line or block to see the exact figure behind it, and click a series in the legend to hide or show it.
Where a report has more than one thing worth charting, you'll see several charts stacked on the page, each in its own card.
Headline figures
Some charts are topped with a row of headline tiles: a large current figure, plus comparison tiles showing the change against a previous period. The comparison tiles are colour-coded, and Breww knows which direction is good for the measure in question - a fall in loss volume is shown as an improvement, while a fall in packaged volume is not.
Charts and large reports
To keep your browser responsive, very large reports only show the first 1,000 rows on screen (export to Excel to get everything). Charts that plot a summarised dimension - such as loss by type or cost by category - are drawn from the full result, so the chart can show categories that the on-screen table has cut off.
Row actions
Reports that report on identifiable records have an Actions column on the right of each row, holding up to three buttons:
- Open the record (eye icon) - jumps straight to the batch, stock item, supplier, inventory receipt or other record the row is about.
- Open a quickview (sidebar icon) - slides out a panel listing the underlying records without leaving the report.
- Drill through (list icon) - runs a more detailed version of the report for just that row.
The exact buttons vary by report and by how the report is grouped. Actions are on-screen only and are left out of Excel and CSV exports.
Quickviews
Clicking the quickview button opens a panel over the right of the page showing the individual records that make up the row you clicked - the batch actions behind a loss figure, the receipt entries behind a month's spend, the allocations behind a stock item's usage, and so on.
The panel shows the first 25 records. At the bottom, Open in Data Explorer takes the same set of records into the full Data Explorer.
Drilling through into the Data Explorer
Open in Data Explorer (from a quickview) opens a Data Explorer report pre-filtered to exactly the records behind the figure you clicked. A banner at the top of the page tells you where you came from, for example "Drilled through from 3 loss. Only the records behind that figure are included."
From there you can:
- Add, remove and reorder columns as you would in any Data Explorer report.
- Export the records to Excel.
- Click
Remove filter & build your ownto drop the drill-through and start from the full data source.
Drilled reports can't be saved, because the filter belongs to the figure you clicked rather than to a reusable query. If you want to keep it, use Remove filter & build your own and rebuild it as a normal Data Explorer report, or export what you have.
For everything else the Data Explorer can do, see Reporting via the Aggregate Report Builder and Raw Data Explorer.
Drilling within a report
Some rows offer a drill-through that stays in the report rather than moving to the Data Explorer. Grouped reports use this to open the detailed view of just that group - clicking View loss events on a loss type, View batches on a beer, View occupancies on a vessel or View receipt lines on a supplier re-runs the report on that slice, keeping your date range and filters.
Reports that take too long
Reports run on screen have a time limit so that one very broad report can't slow the system down for everyone. If a report hits it, Breww tells you that it took too long and may be including more data than required. Narrow the date range or add filters and run it again.
