👋 This article is part of our Getting Started guides. If you are new to Breww and have found this guide without first reading our 🧰 Getting Started Guide, you will want to head there first. Not new to Breww? 🚀 This guide might not be quite right for you as it is aimed at your initial setup; you may instead want to visit our Alias, derived & guest beers help guide.
Now that you have added your 'standard beers', you can add your 'derived' or 'alias' beers. For a more in-depth overview of the differences between these, please visit the article above, but the key differences are highlighted below.
Alias beers
An Alias beer is an alternative brand name for a standard beer. The products sold under this beer share a single stock pool with the standard beer but can be sold to a customer under a different name.
Derived beers
A Derived beer is a standard beer sold under a different name, with the added feature of maintaining a separate stock pool from the standard beer. It can also be used for any beer that originates from a standard beer that undergoes post-fermentation modifications (for example, liquoring back to a different ABV or adding flavouring). There are two types of derived beer, Derived in vessel and Derived at packaging.
-
Derived in vessel beers are beers that are created off of a 'standard' base beer, where additions are made whilst the beer is still held in vessel. Due to these additions, the beer is now different to the beer that was originally brewed.
-
Derived at packaging beers are beers that are created off of a 'standard' base beer, where additions are made a the point of packaging. Due to these additions, the beer is now different to the beer that was originally brewed.
Creating an Alias beer
-
Go to the base "standard beer" (by
Products→Beers), where you can select to view the appropriate beer. -
Click the “Add new alias” button in the alias & derived beers tab, and create the alias beer.
Creating a Derived at packaging beer
You can create a derived at packaging beer using the beer creation wizard:
-
Go to
Production->Beers->New beer. -
Select Derived at packaging as the beer type in the first step of the wizard.
-
Select the parent (base) beer that this derived beer is based on.
-
Complete the remaining steps to enter the beer details and optionally create products.
Alternatively, you can start the wizard with the parent beer pre-selected by navigating to the parent beer's detail page, going to the alias & derived beers tab, and clicking Add new derived at packaging.
Creating a Derived in vessel beer
-
Go to
Production->Beers->New beer. -
Select Derived in vessel as the beer type in the first step of the wizard.
-
Complete the remaining steps to enter the beer details and optionally create products with pricing and tags.
The wizard includes a Quick-create products step where you can select which container type formats you would like Breww to create products for, set prices per price book, and assign product tags. Whilst you could choose to use this tool, if you are importing your products in bulk as part of the getting started guide, it may be more efficient to skip this step and instead import your derived in vessel products alongside your standard and derived at packaging products, which is covered in the next guide!
