Managing your drink types (beer, sprits, cider, wine, etc)
If you produce multiple different types of drink, for example, Beer and Cider (or Spirits, Mead or Wine), Breww supports managing multiple Drink types.
Creating a new drink type
Your drink types are managed on their own page, at Settings -> Production settings -> Drink types. Select + Add drink type in the top right of the page to create one.

Then, simply name the new drink type and select the type of duty that is payable on this drink.

You will be asked for:
- Name - the singular name for this drink type, such as "Beer" or "Gin".
- Name (plural form) - the plural name, such as "Beers" or "Gins". Breww uses both throughout the app, so a drink type named "Gin" will read correctly whether one or many are being referred to.
- Duty type - the type of duty payable on this drink. Only the duty types relevant to your country are offered.
- Duty sub-type - shown only for the duty types that have sub-types. Where it appears, it is required.
If no duty needs to be paid on this type of drink, select No duty. And if Breww doesn't support the type of duty you need to pay out yet, just select Excise duty, and please get in touch via feature requests asking for the type of duty you'd like to see Breww support!
The duty type (and its sub-type) cannot be changed after a drink type has been created, as changing it would cause problems with existing orders and batches. Everything else about a drink type can be edited at any time using the pencil icon on the drink types page. If you have picked the wrong duty type, create a new drink type with the correct one instead.
Deleting and restoring a drink type
You can delete a drink type using the bin icon on the drink types page. There are a couple of rules:
- You must always have at least one active drink type, so the delete button is disabled when only one remains.
- If the drink type has never been used, deleting it removes it completely.
- If the drink type has already been used, for example by a drink or a batch, Breww keeps it so that your existing records stay intact. It will remain in the list marked with a Deleted badge and will no longer be offered when creating new records.
A drink type showing as Deleted can be brought back at any time with the restore icon next to it.
Using your new drink type
Once you have multiple Drink types, you will notice that references to your original drink type, e.g. Beers, instead become references to Drinks, as they can now obviously be one of the multiple drink types.
You will need to specify the type of drink when creating either a new Drink:

or a new Drink style:

UK Alcohol duty
If you have multiple drink types set up that are liable for different duty types, the Beer duty tab on your main menu will become an Alcohol duty tab. From here, you can click through to all the duties that you're liable for.

The annual alcohol production total that you provide Breww at the beginning of each duty year (1st February - 31st January) will be used to calculate your Small Producer Relief rate, if you are eligible, to all duties that you are liable for - so you don't need to enter it for each duty type.
