Migrating legacy guest beer stock items

This guide is for breweries that set up guest beer products before January 2025 using the older method. If you're new to guest beers in Breww, please see the main Alias, derived & guest beers documentation instead.

Do I need to migrate?

Migration is not required - your existing guest beer setup will continue to work. However, migrating is recommended as it provides several benefits:

  • Container types - Guest beers can be tracked as kegs, casks, bottles, cans, or other specific container types, rather than generic "guest beer" items

  • Package from containers - You can package guest beers from containers just like your own products

  • Auto-assemble support - Guest beers can be included in auto-assembled multi-packs and mixed-packs

  • Duty configuration - You can now specify whether you're responsible for the duty or not (defaults to not your responsibility, just like before)

  • Improved reporting - Reports can show guest beers broken down by their actual container types alongside your own products

What changed?

Previously, guest beer products were a distinct product type. Now, guest beer products are created as packaged drink product types (Keg, Cask, Smallpack, etc.) with an associated stock item for purchasing.

How to migrate

Breww provides a migration tool to convert your existing guest beer stock items:

  1. Navigate to the guest beer stock item

  2. Click Actions

  3. Click Migrate to packaged product

  4. Select the Guest beer, container type and quantity of container type that this stock item represents. If the guest beer you need isn't showing in the list, you'll need to create it first.

  5. Confirm the migration

    The migration process:

  • Links the stock item to the existing product or creates a new one if none exists

  • Preserves all existing stock levels and batch information

  • Maintains all historical purchase orders and inventory receipts

Important considerations

  • Migration is a one-way process and cannot be undone

  • Ensure you select the correct beer, container type and container type quantity

  • Contact support if you're unsure about the migration process

If you have any questions, please contact Breww support for assistance.
