Benchmark batches

A benchmark batch is the reference batch for a beer — the one you consider a great example of how that beer should turn out. Once set, the benchmark is shown as its own highlighted line on the batch readings comparison charts, so you can quickly see how every other batch measures up against your ideal.

Each beer can have one benchmark batch at a time. Setting a new benchmark replaces any existing one.

How the benchmark appears on comparison charts

When a beer has a benchmark batch set, it is always included on the batch readings comparison charts and on any batch comparison dashboards for that beer. It appears as its own highlighted reference line, labelled Batch (benchmark), in a distinct colour so it stands out from the other batches.

This makes it easy to compare temperature, gravity, pH, attenuation, and your input/calculated variables data against the batch you're happiest with, rather than just against recent batches.

Setting a benchmark batch

There are two ways to set the benchmark for a beer.

From a batch

  1. Head to Production -> View -> All batches and open the batch you'd like to use as the benchmark.

  2. Select Set as benchmark batch from the batch's actions.

  3. Confirm the change.

The batch must already be started — planned batches that haven't been started yet can't be set as the benchmark.

From the beer

  1. Open the beer from Production -> Beers (or via any of its batches).
  2. Find the Benchmark batch field and select the option to set or change the benchmark.
  3. Choose the batch you'd like to use from the list of that beer's batches, then save.

Changing or removing the benchmark

To swap the benchmark to a different batch, simply set a new benchmark using either method above — this replaces the existing one.

To remove the benchmark entirely without choosing a replacement, open the batch that is currently set as the benchmark and select Remove as benchmark batch. Once removed, the beer will no longer have a reference line on its comparison charts until you set a new benchmark. You can set a benchmark again at any time.
