Breww can store the HMRC identifiers you need when submitting your duty return, so they always appear on the return itself and you never have to go hunting for them. Breww never shares any of these details with HMRC on your behalf - they're purely there for your own reference when you complete and submit your return.
This applies to UK breweries only.
Where to enter your HMRC details
- Go to your
Beer duty/Alcohol dutydashboard. - Click
Annual estimate & settingsin the top right. - Scroll to the HMRC information section.
HMRC details are recorded per producing entity
If you run more than one business from a single Breww account, each one submits its own duty return. Breww lets you record a separate set of HMRC details for each producing entity (duty group), so the correct identifiers always appear on the correct return.
You'll see a separate block of fields for each of your duty groups, labelled with the group's name. If you only have one producing entity, you'll simply see one block.
Producing entities are set up as site groups. See Setting up multiple businesses within a single Breww account for more on running more than one business from a single Breww account.
For each producing entity you can enter:
- Brewer's account number - your HMRC brewer's account number.
- Beer duty reference number - your HMRC beer duty reference number.
- APPA ID - your 15-character Alcohol Products Producer Approval (APPA) ID, made up of 5 letters followed by 10 numbers (for example,
XMADP0123456789). Breww checks this is in the right format when you save. - VAT number - the VAT number to show on this producing entity's duty return. Leave this blank to use the VAT number from the group's invoicing details automatically.
Anything you leave blank simply won't be shown on the return.
If you entered a brewer's account number or beer duty reference number before this update, Breww has automatically carried these over to your existing producing entities, so there's nothing you need to do. You can now adjust them per producing entity whenever you need to.
Where these details appear
The details you enter are shown in the Details card at the top of the relevant duty return, each with a copy button so you can quickly paste them into the HMRC website when submitting your return. The APPA ID is shown on returns for periods from February 2025 onwards.
