Recording batch readings in the Analysis tab

Once you have brewed a batch, you can log its batch readings. You'll find them in the Analysis tab on a batch. If you have selected Copy reading to fermentation logs on a recipe gravity reading, this will automatically add your OG reading to your batch readings when completed in the brewing page.

Reading schedules

At the top of the tab, the Reading schedules card shows a row for each of the batch's filled vessels: the batch reading form it's using, its schedule, the current due window, how many readings have been taken, and whether it's Due, Overdue, Done, Not due or Off.

Which schedule each vessel follows is decided by your batch reading schedule rules.

Add a batch reading

Select Add batch reading on the Analysis tab. If you have more than one batch reading form, this is a dropdown so you can choose which form to fill in, and the one your schedule rules picked for the vessel is marked Scheduled.

You can also add a reading from the main production dashboard, either from the Batch readings tab or by selecting the vessel holding your batch.

On the form itself you choose:

  • Vessel - which vessel the reading was taken in. Choose Whole batch (all vessels) for a reading that isn't specific to one vessel. A whole-batch reading counts towards every vessel's schedule.
  • Reading form - swap to a different form without closing the window. The fields below change to match.
  • Date & time recorded, followed by the readings on the chosen form.

If the vessel has readings due, Breww shows how many have been taken so far.

The add batch readings form, with Vessel and Reading form pickers and a note that the vessel is due today

Which fields appear, whether each one is compulsory and the units used are all configurable, and you can add readings such as CO₂, pressure, dissolved oxygen or your own custom readings. See Batch reading forms for a walkthrough.

Tagging gravity and ABV readings

A gravity reading can be given a Gravity reading type of Original gravity or Final gravity. If the reading is just part of tracking the fermentation, leave this blank.

If you have tagged both an original gravity and a final gravity, Breww adds a calculated ABV to your batch. An ABV reading can instead be marked as the batch's Final batch ABV, which lets you use a measured ABV for duty rather than one worked out from gravity. See Final batch ABV.

You can choose, in your duty settings or on an individual batch, which ABV is used for duty purposes. See Duty settings.

Batch reading graphs

As you log your batch readings, the data is automatically plotted onto charts further down the tab:

  • Fermentation summary - gravity, temperature and pH over time.
  • ABV - the ABV calculated from your gravity readings, any ABV readings you've entered, and a star marking the final batch ABV.
  • Yeast attenuation
  • Other readings - any other numeric reading recorded on the batch, including your custom readings. Use the picker in the top right of the card to switch between them.

The examples below are readings taken from a batch that was brewed on a Breww team brew day using the Tilt hydrometer integration, logging the data over a period of time and plotting the graphs automatically.
