How to create and set your own vessel status icons

Vessel status icons allow you to have a quick and efficient visual prompt for your team when they view the production dashboard. These visuals can represent anything you would like them to, enabling you to display any status changes and leave an automatic log on the fermentation analysis, for example, when the beer is chilling.

Creating a vessel status icon

You can find the Breww pre-set vessel status icons by heading to Settings -> Production settings -> Vessel statuses, and you will be able to create your own by selecting New vessel status. You will then be able to give this status icon a title, choose when this status can be set and whether the status should be cleared when the vessel is emptied.

Status names have to be unique within your account, so if you already have a status with that name, Breww will ask you to edit the existing one instead of creating a duplicate.

Choosing when the status can be set

Choose when to set this status controls which vessels the status can be switched on for:

  • Allow setting on filled vessels - the status can only be switched on while the vessel has something in it. This suits statuses that describe what is happening to the contents, such as "Chilling" or "Ready to transfer". This is the default.

  • Allow setting on empty vessels - the status can only be switched on while the vessel is empty. This suits statuses that describe the vessel itself between batches, such as "Needs a deep clean" or "Out of service".

  • Always allow setting - the status can be switched on at any time, full or empty.

Whichever option you choose, a status that is already switched on can always be switched off again, even if the vessel has since been filled or emptied.

Clearing the status automatically

Automatically clear status when vessel emptied does what it says: as soon as the vessel is emptied, Breww removes the status for you, so nobody has to remember to turn it off. Leave it disabled if the status should stay on the vessel after it has been emptied.

This option only appears when Choose when to set this status is set to Allow setting on filled vessels. For the other two options it doesn't apply, and Breww saves it as off.

Choosing the icon and colour

You can then choose an icon from the catalogue of icons to represent your vessel status and select a colour for your icon. Breww suggests a colour that you aren't already using, so your statuses stay easy to tell apart at a glance. Pick something that shows up well against a white background - if the colour is too pale to read, Breww will ask you to choose a darker one. You can edit the status at any time to change the colour later.

As an example, creating a vessel status of 'Ready to Transfer':

Setting the vessel status on a vessel

Once you have created your vessel icons, you can add these to your vessels. You can add a status icon in two ways:

  • By selecting to view a batch
  • By selecting to view the vessel

These can then simply be toggled to turn them on or off using the toggle that will now be available on your batch or on the vessel

Once turned on, this will display next to the vessel on the production dashboard, giving a clear indication as to which batch in vessel needs to be transferred. It will also leave an observation note on the Analysis tab on a batch on the fermentation log. For more on the batch analysis tab, please see our Batch fermentation analysis help guide.

Editing and deleting vessel statuses

The Vessel statuses page lists each status with its icon, its name, when it can be set, and whether it clears automatically when the vessel is emptied. Use the pencil icon to edit a status, or the red bin icon to delete one. Deleting a status removes it from any vessels currently showing it, so it's worth checking nobody is relying on it first.
