# Signing up and logging in

This page explains what happens when you create a Breww account and how logging in, resetting your password and signing in with a code work.

## Signing up

Enter your name and email address, then choose a password (or use a partner login if one is offered). Breww then emails a 6-digit code to the address you entered. Enter the code on the **Check your inbox** page to verify the address. Until it is verified, the account can't be used. If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, then use **Resend code**. If you typed the wrong address, choose **Use a different email** and start again.

Once your email is verified, a **Before you start** checklist shows what is left to do:

1. **Your details** - the name and email address you signed up with.
2. **Verify your email** - required. This is the 6-digit code step above.
3. **Set up your brewery** - choose **Continue** to set up your brewery, join your team's existing account, or try Breww with a test account. If you were invited to a brewery, this step reads **Join** followed by the brewery's name and who invited you, and if you are signing up to a brewery's trade store it reads **Go to the trade store** and takes you there.

This step is locked until your email is verified.

Some features that reach people outside your brewery, such as customising your emails and sending text messages, unlock once your account is verified. Once your brewery is set up, one way to verify it is to verify your identity, starting from **Settings** -> **Billing** or from the message on any locked feature. See [Why some features need a verified account](https://breww.com/docs/why-some-features-need-a-verified-account/).

> **Note:**
> If you sign up with an email address that already has a Breww account, the screens look exactly the same as for a new address. Instead of creating a second account, Breww emails the existing account's owner with a link to log in (and to reset the password if needed). If you get that email and it was you, just log in as normal.

## Logging in, password resets and sign-in codes

The login, password reset and sign-in code pages never say whether an email address has an account. After you ask for a password reset link or a sign-in code, the page tells you the request was received and that you will get an email if the address can be used. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder and that you entered the address you signed up with, then try again or choose **try another address**.

### Accounts that haven't been used for a long time

If an account hasn't been used for a long time and the web address (domain) of its email address has since been registered again by someone else, Breww doesn't send password reset links or sign-in codes to that address. This protects the account and your brewery's data from being taken over by a new owner of the domain.

Instead, Breww emails the address to explain why nothing was sent. If the account is yours, contact Breww support through the contact options on the Breww website, and we'll help you get back in once we've confirmed who you are. If you didn't ask for a reset or code, you don't need to do anything.

## Verifying your email later

If your account's email address hasn't been verified, a warning bar at the top of Breww asks you to verify it. Choose **Verify my email** to open **Manage email addresses**, where you can re-send the verification email. See [Personal user account settings](https://breww.com/docs/personal-user-account-settings/).

If you also want an extra layer of security when logging in, see [Setting up two-factor authentication (2FA)](https://breww.com/docs/two-factor-authentication-2fa/).

For help with anything else, go to **Need help?** in the main menu and choose **Ask a question**.
